Words cannot describe this Words That Kill..." - John Adorjan, 'Lethal' Patron In the past, Lethal Poetry's partnered with Second City comedians, showcased HBO Def Poets and some of the most talked about performers Chicago has to offer. LP has brought award winning & national touring artists to the stage, and is a frequent Metromix & Red Eyes "best bets" feature! WORDS THAT KILL is a showcase AND poetry slam! We intend on taking a team to the National Poetry Slam...so we now welcome slammers of all language based dicipines. The only primary rules for Chicago's ONLY Omni Slam, is that your performance be 3min or less, in a monologue format (comedy = yes, theater=yes, poetry = yes). Compete & Destroy (for a prize!) Cover is $5 or FREE! IF you bring canned goods for us to donate to a north side Chicago Women's Shelter. Remember to bring friends, because THE MORE PEOPLE WE HAVE THE MORE PEOPLE WE FEED!
THIS MONTH! July 15th | Season Premier ! Lethal Poetry begins the 3rd season of WORDS THAT KILL! a showcase & slam! Cover is $5 or FREE! IF you bring canned goods for us to donate to a Chicago Women's Shelter. Remember to bring friends, because THE MORE PEOPLE WE HAVE THE MORE PEOPLE WE FEED! We're kicking off the 3rd Season of WORDS THAT KILL with a killer line up of poets and comedians! Your fearless features are: Drew Perfilio, Dale Zawada (showcase host), Morris Ink, Bob M Vs F Paul, Alyssa Martinez, , & John Paul Davis (slam host).
Alyssa Martinez, is the co-editor-in-chief of one of In Preparation, literary & art journal. She is a recent graduate of the School of the Art Institute's writing program and is an active musician - readily performing venues all over Chicago. Bob M Vs F Paul - a comedic-theatrical-poetic duo. Not quite monologueists not quite sketch! Thier performances are often criticisms of where pop culture and irony find union! Drew Perfilio, has been known to write work that challenges politics and social issues. He is a poet, performance artist, promoter and one of the fearless organizers of the Polyrhytmic open mic at Trace bar! Morris Ink, currently holds the title for most "wins" at the Words That Kill slam! Though he did not win our Grand Slam, we thought he deserved a featured set! SHOWCASE HOST, Dale Zawada, began performing stand-up comedy in '08 and has performed major venues including the Apollo, Zanies, and the Lakeshore Theater, amongst others. SLAM HOST , Mojdeh Stoakley, a 4x award winning poet and musician - will be hosting in place of John Paul Davis while he is out of town! Mojdeh will likely bring a phaser and/or Klingon disruptor to help eliminate all poets who don't meet up to the judges' expectations! SPEACIAL MUSICAL PERFORMANCES BY Jeremy Lambshead (piano).
EVENT FORMAT Run time 7-9pm. Slam sign up begins at 6:45pm, COMEDY & POETRY SHOWCASE starts promptly at 7pm & will include a selection of Chicago's finest stand up, improv, sketch comedy, performance poetry, & musical poetry! We will close the evening with an OMNI-SLAM! WORDS THAT KILL @ LILLY'S BAR | 2513 N Lincoln Ave - Chicago, IL 60622 | Be There ! We've just introduced the "OMNI SLAM!" We still intend on taking a team to the National Poetry Slam in 2010, BUT we will also welcome any performers that focus thier work in literary performance to compete in the slam as well (i.e comedians, story tellers, theatrical performances, etc). Whatever you do, keep in mind that it should be a monologue performance of 3min or less monolog-type performane. Please arrive 6:45 to sign up for the OMNI slam! Become a sponsor!
